Morris Republican State Senator Sue Rezin says that people in her district are concerned over the passage of the state's assault weapons ban that is now being challenged in court.

Rezin notes that the bill was passed during a lame duck legislative session which is when more controversial bills are often voted on.

Rezin says that Republicans need to be part of the discussion of curbing gun violence.

An Effingham County judge issued a temporary restraining order against law for around 860 plaintiffs in one case. There are several other lawsuits in the court system against the ban. The law prohibits the manufacture and sale of certain guns and high capacity magazines. Those who already own them are supposed to register them with the Illinois State Police.
