A 35-year-old Braidwood woman was arrested after striking a house and leaving the scene of an accident in Coal City around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 21st. Coal City Police Chief Chris Harseim said Laura Pena, 35, of Braidwood failed to yield to a roadway, struck a house at 80 East Park Street in Coal City and then left the scene.

Harseim said Pena was then arrested on Willow and Illinois Streets a few minutes later. No injuries were reported and the house suffered minor damage. Pena was charged with Aggravated DUI and Driving While License Revoked, both class four felonies.

Pena remains free on a $10,000 bond. Pena was also arrested for two DUI’s in 2020. She was sentenced to 30 months of conditional discharge and 12 days in the Grundy County Jail on an Aggravated DUI charge from Grundy County in August of 2022.
