William “Sonny” Armstrong, age 82, of Braidwood, IL, formerly of Custer Park, IL passed away tragically Friday, November 5, 2021 in Braidwood. 

Born November 17, 1938 in Joliet, IL to the late Paul E. and Mildred Marie (nee Vodacek) Armstrong.  Sonny retired from the Laborer’s Local #75 after many years of employment.  He was a former member of the Braidwood Lions Club and the Moose Lodge in Wilmington, IL.  Sonny had a passion for racing and thoroughly enjoyed attending races at the dirt track, where he was seen by many with his dog Bounce and will be remembered for handing out Hot Wheels to all the kids at the track.  Even though Sonny has physically left this earth, his spirit will be forever honored and cherished.  His kindness and selfless heart will never be forgotten and his name will live forever through his many friends and beloved family. 

Surviving are his son, Thomas Armstrong of Braidwood; four grandchildren, Alyssa Armstrong, Timmy (Trisha Campbell) Armstrong, Joey (Sara Lewis-Armstrong) Armstrong, and Charlie Armstrong; two great-grandchildren, Tatum and Teagan Armstrong; two sisters, Joy Armstrong of Custer Park and Marlene Horn of Essex, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Preceding him death were his parents; wife, Genethy (nee West) Armstrong, whom he married, February 14, 1958; son, Tony “Turbo” Armstrong; grandson, Alexander Samul-Lee Armstrong; twin siblings, Jon Armstrong and Jan McPherson; his twin sister, Wilma Brassard; brother, Ervin Armstrong; twin siblings in infancy; and beloved dog, Bounce.

Cremation rites were accorded. The Memorial Visitation for Sonny will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4-8 p.m.  A Celebration of his life will also be at the funeral home, Saturday, November 13 at 10:00 a.m.  Inurnment will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braidwood.
