Sharon Lyn Benner, 76, of Morris, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021, at her home in Morris. Born in Morris on December 8, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Marjorie (Kay) Bright.
Sharon was a lifelong resident of Morris and a graduate of Morris High School, class of 1962. Sharon married Harry (Jim) Benner on November 11, 1962 and was a licensed beautician. She also worked at Montgomery Wards in downtown Morris, and she enjoyed working at McDonald’s as well as First Midwest bank for many years.
Sharon was thrilled to be blessed with two sons, Scott and Shawn, who were her world. She was devoted to her family and took great pleasure in being a Cub Scout Den Mother and spending summers camping with Harry and their boys.
Sharon enjoyed her retirement spending time with her family and her community. She was a member of Friends in Christ Church in Morris where she also taught Sunday School. She played the flute for JJC Community Band and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved music, knitting, and making scrapbooks of treasured family memories. When her cherished grandson Elliot was born, she became a very proud grandmother known to many of her family and friends as “Nana.”
Sharon leaves behind her loving husband Harry of 59 years; children Scott (Emily) of Morris and Shawn (Tami) of Morris, her grandson Elliot, sister Bonnie Osmundson of Arizona, her brother Gary (Judy) Bright of Pontiac, her niece Sara, nephews Kevin, Keith, Kyle, Mark, many cousins, and great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law Jerry Osmundson.
A visitation for Sharon will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 10:30 am, officiated by Pastor Mark Willig immediately followed by internment at Evergreen Cemetery.
