Michael E. Ruhl, age 72, of Coal City, IL. passed away at his home on November 30, 2021 surrounded by family.

He was born on January 6, 1949 in Conneaut, Ohio to Donald and Marion (nee Scott) Ruhl. He married Sandra L. Evensen on January 31, 1970 in Chicago. He used his culinary skills for many years as a chef and also worked on local river boats as a deckhand. Michael’s hobbies involved anything that brought him to the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, long car rides and woodworking. He also liked cooking and baking his grandchildren’s birthday cakes. What Michael enjoyed the most, though, was doing whatever Sandy wanted to do. She was the love of his life and he took pleasure in making her the things that she wanted with his woodworking. They spent 46 years of marriage together before Sandy passed away in 2016. After her passing, Michael became best buddies with her little dog, Sammy.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Phillips of Braidwood, Juliana (Frank) Chambers-Dottore of Rockdale and Jessica (Richard) Stancil of Nashville, N.C.; his ten grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Ruhl II, Ali (Bryan) Czemske, Hannah Phillips, Jake, Seth (Brittney Hill), Promise and Ryan Chambers, and Brooks, Ashlynn, Aubrey and Emma Stancil; his great grandchildren, Reid, Mason and one on the way; and his brother Peter Ruhl of Tinley Park.
