Louis M.”Studda” Campo, age 72, of Coal City, IL. passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Lou was born August 9, 1947 in Joliet, IL. to Louis M. Sr. and Margaret (nee Cornale) Campo. He graduated from Coal City High School. He later married Judith Leve on December 2, 1972 at the Assumption Catholic Church and together they raised four children. Lou was employed as a welding instructor at Com Ed, retiring after 25 years.
In his younger days, Lou was a popular bartender at his family's business, Campo's Lounge, in Diamond. He was known for his smile and his jokes. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening. He had many houses for his Purple Martins, which would fly south to Brazil and fly back every year. He was an award winning Master Cushman builder and could be seen riding with his friends. He would help anyone out if he could, and could fix almost anything that was put in front of him. He enjoyed his labrador dogs, Sadie and Murph. Lou was a welcoming host who liked sharing "garage time" with family and friends and drinking a cold beer with them. Above all, Lou was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy; his children, Michael, Matthew (Jessica), Marc (Tara) and Mary (Thomas Lebeda) Campo; his grandchildren, Hazel and Ellie and one on the way; his sisters, Cathy Fleming and Cindy (Steven) Notter; his sister-in-law, Kathie Simons and brother-in-law Roy (Sharon) Leve; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and countless family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Campo, his mother-in-law Marie Leve and his brothers-in-law Jim Fleming and Gary Simons.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the donor’s choice may be made in Lou’s name.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Ferrari Funeral Services, 1044 Ferrari Drive, Coal City, IL. 60416.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 215 S. Kankakee Street, Coal City, IL. 60416, with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Due to regulations, masks will be required when attending. Burial will follow at Braceville/Gardner Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be A.J. Gagliardo, Bob Phillips, Phil McLuckie, Billy Aichele, Tommy Harseim and Pat Mallaney.
