Kenneth D. “Ken” Allen, 88, of Morris went to be with Jesus on June 17, 2021. 

Born in Chicago, IL on July 1, 1932, the 5th of 7 children, to John and Elizabeth (Dahm) Allen.  He was a known gang member, associated with the R-SAC social athletic club.  Upon graduating from Morgan Park HS in 1949, he enlisted in the US Army serving as an MP 1950-53.  Ken joined the IL State Police in 1957 and upon graduation was told to take residence in Morris.  He quickly fell in love with the Morris Community.

Ken married Judy Byrne (now Steffes) on August 16, 1958 and welcomed sons, James on Dec 28, 1960 and John on June 30, 1964.

Always outgoing, Ken convinced neighbor Jack Strobel in 1965 to hire him at Sponge Cushion and quickly rose to national sales manager staying 7 years.  In 1973 he opened Carpetile Co. in downtown Morris retiring in 1994.

Ken was a Morris Volunteer Fireman from 1958 to 1994. His brother firemen were his most trusted friends.  Ken was a 60+ year member and past commander of American Legion Poswt 294 and an honorary member of the American Legion Riders.

On March 6, 1981 Ken married Cub Fan, Peggy Breitwieser and gained a daughter, Susan and a son, Roger.  The two were married 32 years until Peggy’s passing and melded together a beautiful family.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Jack, Bob, Bill, Betty and Tom; his son, Morris firefighter James Allen; and his wife Peggy.

He is survived by his brother James (Alice) Allen of Sarasota, FL; Sons; John (Julene) Allen of Fair Oaks, IN and Roger (Gail) Breitwieser of Morris and Daughter, Susan (Mark) Borgstrom of Nokomis, FL. 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

For friends attending Ken’s services please wear baseball attire from your favorite team.  White Sox fans will be recognized for their baseball acumen, Cub fans will be loved regardless.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 21, 2021 at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris.  A Celebration of Ken’s Life will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Brad Schumaker of the Coal City United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
