John T. “Jack” Wray, Sr., 89, passed away Saturday May 23, 2020 peacefully at home. Born in Morris on January 1, 1931, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Micetich) Wray.
Jack was a Korean War Veteran, decorated with the Korean Service Medal, three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Lois Blake on February 5, 1955 and together they lived and raised nine children in Morris. He worked at the Federal Paper Board and Commonwealth Edison, retiring in 1993. During retirement, Jack enjoyed traveling with his wife, wood working/ furniture making, fishing and golfing with friends.
Jack is survived by his children Kathleen Wray, Karen (Tom) Haeberle, Barbara (Dave) Brue, Joan (Mike) Cryder, John T. Wray, Jr., Janice (Bill) Broderick, Patrick Wray, Ann Wray and Gregory Wray; grandchildren Lauren Broderick, Ross (Alexandra) Haeberle, Reagen (Luke) Ferenc, Landon Wray, Jackson, Hudson and Cooper Wray; step grandchildren Jeff (Heather) Brue and Luke Brue; great grandchildren Henry and Olivia Haeberle and Baby Girl Ferenc (due in July); step great grandchildren Madison, Ella and Pearson Brue; and sister Eleanora Shipley.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Lois; grandson Ryan Michael Wray; his parents; sister Margaret Wray; and brothers Robert and Edward Wray.
Memorials in Jack’s name may be made to Operation St. Nick and St. Jude Hospital.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday May 27, 2020. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Morris, with military honors by the Morris Color Guard.
