James Wilson Thomas, 80, of Mazon, passed away with his family by his side on August 26, 2021.

Jim was born June 4, 1941 in Scottsburg, Indiana to Woodrow and Lilian (Middleton) Thomas. Known as “Wilson” back home in Indiana, he was raised on a farm and as a boy learned the values of hard work and caring for others. In 1966 he moved to Illinois to find work, where he met Peg Bryant. They were married on June 23, 1967. Together they worked at LyondellBasell, where he retired after 36 years.

Jim and Peg settled in Mazon and raised their family there. Jim was a friend to all and always extended a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved watching his boys play sports and later, his grandchildren and their friends. Throughout his life he exemplified the “Golden Rule.”

Jim leaves behind his wife of 54 years, his sons Jamie (Becky) Thomas and Shannon (Melissa) Thomas, his brother Scott (Pat) Thomas, his sister Dora Faye Shelley, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was Grandpa to Maggie (Zach) Thomas Harper, Joey Thomas, and Carter and Lauren Thomas.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Winnia Lee and Grace, and brothers-in-law Gilbert and Don.

All who knew him will always remember his warmth, his smile, and his generosity!

Gifts in Jim’s memory can be made to the Family Assistance Fund at FUMC of Morris, IL.
