The Gardner Village Board on Monday board reviewed bids for the replacement of the water tower. They also discussed adding a monthly fee on the water bills to cover the expense of a new water tower.

Commissioner Rob Wolf commented he did not feel a surcharge was necessary based on the village revenues and should first look at not waiving bills.

Wolf also commented a new tower would have alleviated the recent boil order. Village Engineer Casey McCollom commented the current tower has reached the end of its useful life and maintenance is now costlier than replacement.

McCollom and a representative from CBI, the contractor for the new tower, stated if the bid was awarded tonight, the work would be completed before the end of 2021.

Gardner Mayor Mike Serena proposed tabling the item pending the return of Commissioner Dick Hileman to verify the finance source for the project.
