Oswego Police say a 69 year-old Oswego woman was scammed out of $10,000 after allegedly receiving a fraudulent phone call from someone claiming to be a Sergeant with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office who required gift card information to clear up legal trouble.

Police say they took the report last week on Thursday morning.

According to a report, last Wednesday night around 8:00 p.m., the victim received a called from a male purporting to work with the sheriff's office as a Sergeant.

The male allegedly claimed the victim was in legal trouble and needed to clear up the matter to avoid warrants being issued.

Police say the scammer advised the victim they needed to purchases and activate numerous $500 gift cards and provide the information over the phone to avoid the legal troubles.

Police were contacted on Thursday morning around 9:51 a.m. and took the report from Pearces Ford Rd.

No arrests have been announced in the case. Investigation is ongoing.
