A winner was declared in Grundy Banks annual Hot Dog Eating contest. Participants in the contest scurried around the Grundy County courthouse lawn during Brown Bag Friday soliciting donations from those who came to watch.
Ten contestants, including WCSJ’s own Justin Ritz, Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland and former champ David Valdivia, chowed down on some dogs for their respective charities.
Some of those organizations include: Grundy Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity, Just Animals Shelter and the United Way of Grundy County, among others.
The winner this year was David Valdivia who has won in previous years and ate for Morris Soccer Boosters. After the competition Valdivia spoke about his hot dog eating technique.
Winning the prize for most money raised was Kim DesLauries who was participating for Immaculate Conception School. DesLauries spoke about what the donation will mean to the school.
In total, participants raised over $6,700 dollars for their charities including $500 donated by Grundy Bank to both the eating contest and fundraising winners.
