Two people were killed in a house fire that occurred in the 24,000 block of Bell Road near the Channahon/Minooka area earlier this morning.
Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer has more details.
The Will County Coroner’s Office said the body of 5-year-old Waveland Fitch was recovered from the house. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:35 a.m.
The Grundy County Coroner’s Office said Susan Weber, 57, of Minooka died as a result of the house fire and she was pronounced dead at Morris Hospital shortly before 2 a.m. At least two others were transported to Morris Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No preliminary determination of the cause has been released at this time.
Fire companies from Minooka, Troy, Wilmington, Elwood, Plainfield, Morris, Coal City, Braidwood, New Lenox, Homer Township, and Joliet provided assistance at the scene. Fire agencies from Romeoville, Gardner, Northwest Homer, and Manhattan provided area coverage throughout the incident.
Minooka, Channahon, Will County, and Grundy County Police provided traffic control and site security at the scene.
