The Morris Police Department issued ordinance violations against three juveniles around 7:20 p.m. on May 20th. Officers were called to Stratton Park for a report of a silver Trailblazer whose occupants were shooting a BB or pellet gun at other vehicles.

The vehicle was located and stopped by the Grundy County Sheriff's Office at Route 47 and Southmor Road. All three occupants were juveniles. Officers located long gun style gel blasters in the vehicle. They were each cited with Discharge of a Firearm in City Limits (City Ordinance Violation) and released to parents.

The Discharge of a Firearm Ordinance reads as follows: (a)It is unlawful to discharge any gun, pistol, rifle, cannon, pellet gun, BB gun, air rifle, air pistol or other firearm which discharges any solid projectile either by air, spring device, explosive substance or any other force within the corporate limits of the city.

The Morris Police Department wants to remind parents to please take time to educate your children on the dangers of this kind of behavior. Not only is there risk of damage to property, the guns look real and shoot things. They could easily be mistaken for a legitimate threat and someone may shoot back with a real weapon.
