On 11-20-21 at around 12:25 pm, the Morris Police Department learned the Grundy County Sheriff's Department was attempting to stop a vehicle south of Morris for traffic violations.  The suspect fled and continued north on Route 47 into Morris at a high rate of speed and ultimately crashed into another vehicle on Route 47 just north of Green Acres Drive.

The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot and ran behind the Super 8 Motel, 70 Green Acres Drive.  The suspect was located by Morris Police Officers, Grundy County Deputies, and an off duty Detective from a suburban agency.  The suspect drew a gun and discharged his firearm.  He then fled to the front of R.P. Home and Harvest, 2655 Sycamore Drive and entered the building.

Officers immediately pursued the suspect into R. P., evacuating customers and employees.  After a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.

No one was injured during the R.P. standoff.  An occupant of the victim vehicle was transported to Morris Hospital.

The case is still under investigation and charges are pending.  More information will be released as it becomes available.

The Morris Police Department was assisted by the Grundy County Sheriff's Department, the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, Grundy County Emergency Management Agency and the off duty detective.
