The Grundy County Land Use Committee last month discussed a map amendment request for property in the 5,000 block of West Route 6 in Morris.
Land Use Director Heidi Miller said the owners of the property want to rezone it from Agricultural to Commercial General, which would allow a potential new owner the ability to have a business in the existing machine shop buildings located to the north of the property.
Miller said the existing uses of the shop and business are considered to be legal non-conforming use. However, she said under new ownership the property is required to be rezoned to allow for the shop business to be operated.
During the meeting, a nearby resident along with several others shared their concerns.
The Grundy County Zoning Board of Appeals on November 19th recommended the rezoning, but the Land Use Committee did not take action as they want the petitioner to provide further details about the business to Miller.
The ZBA will once again discuss the issue on December 17th.
