The Seneca Village Council this week discussed the issue of allowing chickens within village limits.

After officials received a letter from a resident inquiring about the possibility of raising chickens so the eggs could be used for personal use, Mayor Jeff Olson asked Village Clerk, Jennifer Peddicord, to research ordinances from other cities and villages that allow chickens to be raised within theirĀ boundaries.

Village Engineer, Casey McCollom noted that the Village of Channahon has a pilot program that issues a limited number of permits for keeping chickens.

The village council will discuss the issue during a future board meeting after more research has been completed.
