A report out this month from a financial news and opinion company lists Kendall County as the, "richest county in the state of Illinois."
Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed median household income in over 2,000 counties and county equivalents nationwide to identify the richest county in each state.
According to their analysis, Kendall County topped the list for Illinois. In the breakdown of the factors used to make that designation, analysis showed the median household income for Kendall County is $91,764, compared to the $63,575 statewide average.
Kendall County's poverty rate is also down at 5.3 percent, while the state average is 13.1 percent. October 2019 unemployment was used for analysis in the study coming in at 3 percent, compared to 3.9 percent for the state.
Another factor included in the report was the percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree, which compares 35.4% to a state average of 34.1 percent.
The report said many of the counties on the list — particularly those around major urban areas like New York City and Washington D.C. — have a high cost of living that necessitates higher overall incomes to some degree. However, the high incomes in those areas are also often attributable in part to the availability of jobs.
An additional factor contributing to higher incomes in the counties on the list is the skill level of the labor force.
It's not the first time Kendall County has been given the designation, as the company listed the county as the richest in the state in their report, last year.
