Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says he supports Planned Parenthood's decision to forgo federal funding over a new abortion "gag rule."

As ABC News is reporting, Planned Parenthood said Monday it's pulling out of the federal family planning program rather than abide by a new Trump administration rule prohibiting clinics from referring women for abortions.

The rule prevents clinics accepting Title X family planning funds from talking to patients about where they can get an abortion.

Planned Parenthood officials say they feel it is an attack on reproductive healthcare and Gov. Pritzker agrees.

Pritzker also says the state will not accept Title X funds while the gag order is in place.

ABC reports that in a statement, the federal Department of Health and Human Services said Planned Parenthood knew months ago about the new restrictions and suggested that the group could have chosen at that point to exit the program.

ABC says Maine Family Planning, which is unaffiliated with Planned Parenthood, also released its letter of withdrawal Monday. The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association, an umbrella group for family planning clinics, is suing to overturn the regulations.
