The Newark Village Board awarded the Franklin/Center Street Drainage Project to Brandt Excavating of Morris at its meeting earlier this week. Their bid of $145,328 was the lowest of seven bids. The project will correct drainage problems caused by tile being cut during the construction of several homes. The drainage path will then be extended to Clear Creek.
Street Superintendent Gary Clauson reviewed the frequently asked questions that will be added to the village web site.
Following a lengthy discussion, the board approved increases to the salaries for the mayor and trustee positions. The mayor's salary was approved to be $5,000 annually. Trustee salaries were approved to be $75 per regular monthly meeting on a four to two vote.
Due to COVID-19, the board has been meeting in the garage area of the municipal building. With the weather about to change, the board will change their meeting site. Pending calendar dates, the board will be meeting at the Newark Lutheran Church Community room. The Newark Village Board meets again October 14.
