41 wins and two losses.

That was the season record for the 2019 Class 1A State Champion Newark girls volleyball team.

Coach Tonya Grayson and the volleyball players were honored by the Kendall County Board at last Tuesday's regular meeting.

This was the second consecutive state championship for Newark, an accomplishment that was noted by county board Chairman Scott Gryder.

Coach Grayson spoke about re-building the team after the 2018 state championship.

Senior Meggie Scott spoke about the last three years playing for the Newark girls volleyball team.

The superintendent of Newark Community H.S. Dist. #18 Amy Smith was also present for the county board ceremony.

Coach Grayson is a 1990 graduate of Newark H.S., and she spoke about the feeling of coaching a team at the same place where she went to high school.

Newark beat Illini Bluffs on Nov. 16 of last year to win the state title.
