The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis – its worst blood shortage in more than a decade.

Red Cross officials say dangerous low blood supply levels are posing a concerning risk to patient care and forcing doctors to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available.

Morris Hospital Lab Director Kimberly Wolfer explains why there is a shortage of blood.

Wolfer spoke about how the issue is impacting Morris Hospital.

We asked Wolfer what happens in the worst case scenario.

Wolfer also had this to say.

If you are interested in donating blood or platelets, make an appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. More reaction from Wolfer is below.
