A new resource officer will guard the halls of Marseilles' schools.

During the Marseilles City Council meeting on Wednesday night, Police Chief Brian Faber introduced Dave Lawson of Mendota, who is serving as the new school resource officer.Lawson has worked 29 years in law enforcement and has been on the Trident program.

In other business, the council approved payment to Baxter and Woodman of Carol Stream for the levee improvement project in the amount of $314,908.The council also adopted an ordinance authorizing the purchase of 534 Overton St. in Marseilles.
