The City of Marseilles received great news from the state of Illinois on Monday. Austin Taylor, a city planner for the North Central Illinois Council of Governments, had this announcement.
The Marseilles City Council last year applied for the grant that comes from the Illinois Boat Access Area Development Program which provides financial assistance to local government agencies for the acquisition, construction, and expansion or rehabilitation of public boat and canoe access areas on Illinois’ lakes and rivers.
Revenue for this program is derived from marine motor fuel tax and boat and canoe registration fees. The city acquired the property after a land swap with Nucor Tube Products last year.
Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck said this has been a long term goal for several decades and was part of the comprehensive plan in the late 90’s. He also said the project will bring people to the area and be an asset to residents and the city’s emergency personnel.
