One of two individuals has pleaded guilty in a Grundy County court case. Several individuals were arrested after an Interstate Drug Checkpoint on Interstate 80 by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office on March 24th of 2022. Police officials say the operation lasted several hours and resulted in 34 vehicles stopped for traffic violations.

The Grundy County Sheriff's Office, the Grundy County Pro-Active Unit and the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad conducted the operation. Jose Godinez, 45, of Richmond, California and Morris Williams, 46, of Dolton were charged with Cannabis Trafficking and Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis, both class X felonies for Possession of Cannabis Over 5,000 grams, a Class 1 Felony.

Godinez possessed 125 pounds of Cannabis and Williams is accused of possessing 17.5 pounds of Cannabis. Godinez pled guilty to the Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, a class two felony and was placed on four years of probation.

He was sentenced to serve 30 days of electronic monitoring/home confinement. Williams court case is still ongoing.
