Authorities have identified the deceased individual who was struck by a train in LaSalle County on Monday morning.

Marseilles Police say 48 year-old Patrick Haff, listed as homeless, died after police say an investigation found he stepped onto train tracks in front of the oncoming train.

Police said they received a call from the CSX Railroad Dispatch around 12:46 a.m. and informed that one of their trains had struck a pedestrian in the area of South Main Street and the railroad crossing in Marseilles. 

Police say in an update that the train was traveling about 40 miles per hour when Haff was struck.

The collision and investigation resulted in the railroad crossing being blocked for an extended period of time.

No other injuries were reported.
