One person was killed in an accident that occurred on Interstate 80 shortly after ten in the morning on Wednesday, September 9th.
The Illinois State Police District 17 out of LaSalle said a vehicle driven by Robert Bowen, 84, of Macomb was westbound in the left lane of Interstate 80 in Bureau County. That is when for unknown reasons Bowen struck a 47-year-old male pedestrian from Chicago.
Police officials say the pedestrian, a highway maintenance worker, was standing outside of his maintenance truck, equipped with an arrow board and crash attenuator, near milepost 44 while assisting with traffic control in the maintenance zone.
Bowen was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way to any authorized vehicle or pedestrian working within a highway construction or maintenance zone. The incident remains under investigation.
