Illinois lawmakers are voting to ban smoking in the car with children.

Supporters say kids exposed to secondhand smoke have a higher risk of SIDS and asthma.

State Senator Steve McClure of Jacksonville says it can lead to problems later in life. 

This would be a secondary offense, meaning police couldn’t pull someone over just for smoking. Those busted face a 100 dollar fine.

The bill now goes to the Governor for final approval
