State lawmakers are discussing a bill aimed at attracting top talent to run state agencies.
Under the legislation, the salary for some agency directors would be raised by 15 percent.
Supporters, like State Representative Christian Mitchell of Chicago say that’s needed to help bring in the best people in their fields.
The head of the Department of Corrections is also being cited as an example since directors in similar roles make significantly more in other states.
The bill will be up for a vote first in the house.
