A LaSalle County man was sentenced on four misdemeanors charges on July 15th.
The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by David Downey, 34, of Peru on East 29th Road north of Seneca in late May of 2019.
After a brief pursuit, Downey attempted to hide his vehicle behind a building near the Dollar General Store in Seneca and then fled on foot.
Officers were able to locate Downey after witnesses pointed him out running from the vehicle not far from where he parked it.
Downey was arrested for reckless driving, speeding 90 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, obstructing a police officer, disobeying a stop sign and operating a vehicle without insurance.
Downey pled guilty to two counts of criminal damage to property, fleeing or attempting to elude police and reckless driving. He was sentenced to serve 40 days in the LaSalle County Jail and two years of conditional discharge.
