A land swap between the city of Marseilles and Nucor Tubular Products has been discussed further over the last two weeks.

The land swap between the city and Nucor Tubular Products would allow for a new boat launch.

At last Wednesday’s city council meeting, an ordinance was approved to exchange 14 acres of city land on the north side of Broadway Street for a comparably sized piece of land on the south side of Broadway Street, north of the Illinois River.

Mayor Jim Hollenbeck told the city council they will explore grant opportunities for the boat launch in the summer and will utilize potential grant funding for playground equipment, planting trees and picnic tables with the goal of opening the space in spring of this year.

Hollenbeck stated he has received a lot of feedback on the project from Marseilles residents, adding the space can be an asset to residents and the city’s emergency personnel.
