KenCom Public Safety Dispatch officials say they are now screening callers who are reporting flu-like symptoms or respiratory illness for the novel coronavirus, due to the increased illnesses being spread.

KenCom Asst. Director of Communications Jen Stein spoke about the protocol that went into effect on Monday evening.

Stein says the screening is part of emergency medical dispatch protocol.

If a positive response is received for any of the questions, the patients is also then advised to isolate themselves. First responders are also advised to use additional precaution.

Stein says similar types of screening have been done in past years.

Illinois has had two positive cases of novel coronavirus confirmed thus far.
