A local Republican State Representative and Democrat State Senator teamed up to pass a law that brings natural gas to Pembroke Township in Kankakee County.

House Bill 3404 was signed into law by Governor J. B. Prizker on August 27th and created the Pembroke Township Natural Gas Investment Pilot Program. The program supplies Nicor Gas with 1 million dollars to increase its service area into Pembroke Township, which lies in the South-East corner of Kankakee County and contains the Village of Hopkins Park.

The pilot program could provide natural gas to over 400 homes and 22 businesses within the Township. The bill was introduced into the House by State Representative Jackie Haas and was sponsored by State Senator Patrick Joyce in the Senate.

“The Pembroke community has waited long enough for this basic need,” Joyce said. “With the advancement of this transformative legislation, Pembroke residents will soon have adequate living conditions and the necessary resources to keep warm.”
