An Illinois State Police trooper was seriously injured in a crash that occurred on Interstate 55 northbound lanes south of Route 30 in Will County around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.
The Illinois State Police said a squad car with emergency lights activated in the left lane was assisting a stalled motorist on Interstate 55. A Toyota pickup driven by Alexis Magallanes, 19, of Berwyn traveling northbound at the same location rear-ended the ISP squad car.
The Illinois State Police said a 2016 Ford Van then struck the pickup truck and the squad car which ended up being pushed into the left concrete barrier before coming to a stop in the left lane.
The Trooper sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to a local area hospital. Magallanes suffered serious injuries and the Ford van driver who had non-life-threatening injuries were also transported to local area hospitals.
Magallanes was cited for a violation of the Move Over (Scott’s) Law, as well as the failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
