Illinois State Police District 5 will increase some patrols next month, which will include extra enforcement on impaired driving.
District 5 Troopers will conduct Roadside Safety Checks during the month of September, according to Commander Captain David Schneider.
Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages or driving under the influence.
Schneider also announced an Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement patrol, or ACE patrol, during the month, as well.
The ACE patrols allow ISP Troopers to target an area with saturation patrols that focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or other drugs.
ISP statistics show alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.
District 5 covers Grundy, Kendall and Will counties.
Both enforcement activities are funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
