The Illinois State Police is announcing that troopers will be focusing on Scott's Law violations and distracted driving over the next few weeks. Around ten ISP squad cars have been hit so far in 2021. Several of the crashes resulted in injuries.

Police will be on the lookout for drivers not moving over or slowing down for parked emergency vehicles or any parked vehicle with its hazard lights on. Police will also be checking for drivers using their phones while driving.

Fines for violating move over laws can range between $250 and $10,000. If the violation results in an injury, there is a mandatory suspension of the driver's licence. A first offence for distracted driving could amount to a fine $75. If the distracted driving leads to death or an injury, there could be prison time.
