Illinois State Police are seeking information on the cold murder case of a Streator boy.

State police officials on Monday took to Facebook in an effort to collect leads in the 2003 cold case murder of 7-year-old Dalton Mesarchik of Streator.

In the post, ISP said Dalton was taken from his front yard and found in the Vermillion River 24 hours later.

During the initial investigation, which was led by ISP with assistance from the Streator Police Department and Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, police interviewed dozens of people and followed up on hundreds of leads in an attempt to identify Dalton’s killer.

Police officials also said officers found a hammer that was believed to be used to kill the boy.

A $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Dalton’s murderer is still in effect.

Anyone with information should contact Illinois State Police – Dalton Mesarchik Task Force at 1-815-844-1500 (ext. 2321) or email at daltonm@isp.state.il.us.
