As warmer weather approaches, the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation are reminding motorcyclists to 'Ride Smart.'

Motorcyclists account for 15 percent of traffic crash fatalities in Illinois despite being on the road for only a portion of the year.

Authorities say those who ride them should have their bikes safety-checked and take advantage of the free motorcycle training classes offered throughout the state. Riders should also always wear a helmet, eye protection, gloves, pants, boots and a jacket.
