The Illinois Beer Festival returns to Grundy County this weekend. Beer Festival Organizer Aren Hansen explains how the event started.

He said over 100 different beers in a wide variety of styles will be available at the festival, which is this Saturday, August 17 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Grundy County Fairgrounds.

Meanwhile, Hansen said this past Saturday, several breweries won awards.

He said gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded in 11 different categories.

Hansen mentioned the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado as  one of the largest brew festivals in the nation. Some of the winners at last year's Illinois Beer Festival went on to win gold medals there where thousands of different beers are sampled.

Tickets for the Illinois Beer Festival this Saturday are available online at or the day of the event at the Grundy County Fairgrounds entrance.

Non-drinking passes for designated drivers will also be available at the event entrance. All festival attendees must be at least 21 years old.
