The Illinois High School Association announced Wednesday that all sports will be played over the course of the school year, but seasons will be shortened and some sports won't happen in their traditional seasons.

The fall season, which runs August 10 through October 24 will include boys and girls golf, girls tennis, cross country, and girls swimming.

The winter season will run November 16 through February 13 and will include boys and girls basketball, wrestling, boys swimming, cheerleading, dance, boys and girls bowling, and girls gymnastics.

In the spring, which will be February 15 through May 1, there will be football, boys soccer, girls volleyball, girls badminton, boys gymnastics, and boys and girls water polo.

Summer sports include baseball, softball, track and field, girl's soccer, boys volleyball, lacrosse, and boy's tennis. The summer season is May 3 through June 26.

Schools using remote learning will be allowed to participate in IHSA activities. The IHSA says more details will be forthcoming pending approval of the plan by the Illinois Department of public health.

The governor's office released guidance on sports Wednesday that assigns a risk level to each activity. High contact sports like wrestling and football are considered to be higher risk than low contact sports like track and golf.
