Two candidates launched their campaigns this week for Grundy County State's Attorney.
Current Grundy County State's Attorney Jason Helland announced his intention to run for re-election in front of a gathering of supporters in Mazon Tuesday night.
Helland was first elected in 2012 and won a second term as State's Attorney in 2016.
During the announcement, State’s Attorney Helland spoke of the various accomplishments under his administration including increasing public services while decreasing his budget and specialty court programs that help people get their life back on track.
Helland’s Democratic challenger, Morris native Jeff Brown, also announced his candidacy at the Grundy County courthouse on Tuesday.
Brown described himself as a career prosecutor, working under Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow.
He currently works in the sex crimes unit handling some of the most serious felony cases in Will County and heads the animal cruelty unit.
