A Will County man has been arrested for allegedly killing another individual. The Joliet Police Department said Dartavius Payton, 24, of Lockport allegedly shot and killed a 20-year-old male from Joliet in the 300 block of Grant Avenue in Joliet around 9 p.m. on April 28th.
After the shooting, officers spotted a black Cadillac SUV speed away from the area. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and came to a stop on West Coal City Road in Diamond. Officers were able to take two subjects that fled from the SUV into custody immediately. Two other subjects were arrested in the 2500 block of East Stellon Street in Diamond a few hours later.
The four individuals were questioned and later released pending further investigation. After further investigation, was arrested in the 2500 block of East Stellon Street in Diamond on May 1st and charged in Grundy County with the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
During the course of their investigation, Joliet Police Detectives were able to determine that Payton was involved in the homicide. After reviewing the case with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, an arrest warrant for Payton was issued as he is facing three counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.
Payton was arrested on that Will County warrant by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office in the 2,500 block of East Stellon Street in Diamond around 11 a.m. on July 5th. Payton was transferred to the Joliet Police Department for booking procedures and then transported to the Will County Jail where he remains on a $2.5 million bond.

It is still unclear if any other charges have been filed against three other individuals who fled from the vehicle.
