The Grundy County Law and Justice Committee last week heard about the county being reimbursed from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley spoke with WCSJ.

Briley said county board officials agreed receiving some money is better than none. He also said IDOC is once again pausing intakes from county jails due to COVID-19.

Briley said Grundy County currently has six inmates in the Grundy County Jail awaiting to be transported to the Northern Reception Center at the Stateville Correctional Center.

Briley also had this to say.

State Representative David Welter was asked about the issue while on WCSJ's People are Talking on Thursday.

IDOC officials say when COVID-19 cases drop again, intakes from county jails will resume. 75 percent of inmates and 66 percent of staff have been vaccinated against the virus.
