Governor J.B. Pritzker announced new Department of Public Health Rules Friday for COVID-19 mitigation to provide a consistent set of guidelines for law enforcement to use for mask wearing or social distancing violations.
The rules have a three-tier approach.
The fine could go up to $2,500. Pritzker says the majority of people in Illinois are following the rules to slow the spread of COVID-19. He's hoping that the new rules introduced Friday will help encourage those who aren't.
Illinois has seen over 188-thousand cases and over 7-thousand COIVD-19 deaths since virus began to spread more rapidly in March. Many regions in the state have continued to see increased COVID-19 test positivity rates and hospitalizations.
