The Gardner Village Board on Monday discussed changes to the village building permits to include provisions for charges related to failed inspections.

Mayor Serena suggested the board consider the appropriate amount to charge for a failed inspection. Commissioner Wolf inquired who would receive the additional fee. Serena responded after the first 10 inspections for the year, the fee would go to the inspector involved in the inspection.

Serena also commented he believes an e-mail system should be set up to contact the inspectors and track the inspections. Village Engineer Casey McCollom noted several of the municipalities he works with use a work order system with time lines and include the fees for all first inspections in the original permit fee and failed inspection fees are codified by ordinance.

The board tabled the item and will have future discussions.
