A former Morris City Council member could spend the next several years in prison.
Don Matteson, 80, of Morris has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Firearm, fleeing and eluding police, resisting or obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct, and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which are misdemeanors.
The Morris Police Department responded to a business in the 1500 block of Creek Drive where Matteson was allegedly waving a handgun in the air and making threats on June 6th.
Police officials say Matteson allegedly refused to stop for an officer while in his vehicle after leaving the scene. Matteson had to be physically disarmed and taken into custody outside of his home on East Benton Street, a short time later.
A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from Matteson’s front right pants pocket. Investigators say Matteson had a proper FOID card and concealed carry license. Matteson remains in the Grundy County Jail.
Matteson, who lost in the 2017 Election to Third Ward Alderman Derek Wren, spent several years on the Morris City Council.
