The Dwight Fire Protection District has been selected by FEMA to receive a four year Recruitment and Retention Grant from the SAFER program.
The FEMA SAFER grant program is designed to help fire departments recruit and retain firefighters.
The fire department will be receiving $283,000 which will be used to retain our current members by providing funding for advanced training, tuition reimbursement, recruitment activities, advertising, and other activities.
The Dwight Fire Department received a similar grant in 2015 for $353,000 which helped them increase their membership from 21 firefighters to the current figure of 51.
Since 2015, the department has received over $1,000,000 in State and Federal Grants. The grants have helped their department provide service levels comparable to a full-time organization.
