A Grundy County woman accused of stealing money from the Coal City Area Club had her first court appearance last week. Deborah Fatlan, 64, of Diamond was charged with Theft between $10,000 and $100,000, a class two felony.
The Coal City Police Department said they met with board members from the Coal City Area Club last December. The board reported that Fatlan had stolen money from the club office located at 285 South Broadway St. in Coal City.
This comes after the board performed a professional audit detailing all of the transactions dating back to 2017. Fatlan turned herself into the Coal City Police Department on June 3rd and released on a $50,000 bond.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charge and demanded a jury trial. In addition, Grundy County Judges Sheldon Sobol, Rob Marsaglia and Lance Peterson have recused themselves in the case. Fatlan is due back in court on October 29th.
