One person has died of Covid-19 at the Pontiac Correctional Center in Pontiac. The Illinois Department of Corrections and Livingston County Health Department said the individual was a male in his 70’s who had been hospitalized.
Local officials did not release if the person was a staff member or inmate at the prison. In addition, another person at the prison has tested positive for Covid-19. The individual includes a male in his 20's who was asymptomatic at the time of testing and is currently recovering in isolation.
Due to the increased COVID-19 activity at the prison, additional protective measures are being implemented in order to identify new cases and ensure the health and safety of staff and inmates, including more frequent testing. As of May 21, 2020, the Livingston County Health Department has received 739 COVID-19 test results.
Of that, 30 COVID-19 tests have been positive and 709 tests confirmed negative. Twenty-four people have recovered, four cases remain active and two people have died. Of those individuals who have tested positive, three were asymptomatic at the time of testing.
