The Coal City Village Board this week approved a resolution to hire another Coal City Police Officer.

According to published reports, Police Chief Tom Best said he would like to implement an afternoon shift. Village Administrator Matt Fritz and Best spoke at the meeting on Wednesday.

Best told Coal City Mayor Terry Halliday the hire would have many benefits including allowing other officers to return to their normal duties and eliminate some overtime cost.

The cost of the new officer would be more than $80,000.
